Personal history
Born and raised in the village of Pullsford, in the Kingdom of Haradur, Bill was the son of a master wood-cutter.
His childhood was spent working alongside his father and four brothers, learning how to cut wood, manufacture planks, and carve timber.
Like his father, and his grandfather, Bill was a natural learner when it came to wood craft.
At the age of eight, he was as good as several of his elder brothers in their mid-teens.
Bill's mother fell gravely ill, when he was fourteen years of age. As a result, his father had to spend more time at home, leaving his sons to carry on the family trade, and to lead the wood cutting gangs that worked in the forests.
His mother passed away just short of his fifteenth birthday, and his third oldest brother, Preston, was killed in an accident in the forest, after being crushed by a tree.
Stricken with grief, Bill's father took his own life, leaving his remaining three sons to carry on the trade.
At the age of eighteen, Bill was tasked with taking a shipment of wood to the capital of Harisburg, to sell at the markets. There, he over heard a rival timber merchant selling inferior timber for a grossly exaggerated price. Believing in doing whats right, and needing to sell his own timber, Bill stepped in, explaining to the buyer, an inexperienced merchant from a neighbouring kingdom, the subtle imperfections which made the timber he was about to buy, almost worthless, especially for what the Merchant needed. By the end of the day, all of Bill's wagon's were being unloaded at the cities port, and the valuable timber being loaded onto merchant vessels for far off shores. Bill was approached by a member of the Harisburg merchants guild, who had watched him negotiate the sale of his own timber, and the eye he had for quality. A month later, Bill had been hired by the Merchants guild as a surveyor, sailing around the world, helping to sell and purchase various timbers from distant shores. Having never left Haradur before, Bill found it exciting seeing the world, and found a previously undiscovered desire to explore, within himself.
The years passed and Bill had also become an competent sailor. At the age of thirty two, Bill had crossed the the vast ocean between the South-eastern and Northern and southern continents, countless times and had helped trade quantities of timber he once could never have dreamed of. When he returned to Harisburg, on his voyages, he sent a sum of his earnings back to his brothers in Pullsford, who still ran the woodcutter gangs.
It was on one of these trips back to Harisburg, and an end to one sailing contract, that Bill found himself in a dock side tavern. A group of Sailors, were talking of the Ghost Archipelago, the fabled islands which had recently been the talk of sailors around the globe. Imagining the adventure that awaited in those fabled islands, Bill obtained a new contract with the Merchants guild to prospect for exotic timber in the ghost Archipelago.
In four months he had arrived in the port city of Kiln-bay, a bustling sea side city who's waters were filled with ships preparing to search for the lost isles. There, he found passage onboard a Ship named 'Tempest', recently returned from the Ghosts, and captained by a Fiery-haired heritor. As the ship sped away from the port, under full sail, Bill could only dream of the adventures that lay ahead.
