Deckhand Jenny Haskal (a.k.a. Jen)

Salt water runs through Jen's veins. Her life as a Corsair has seen her spend more days voyaging on the waves than with her feet on dry land. Having sailed from her home in Cape Vennitar, and raiding ships along the length of the Western-Kingdoms coast, countless times, Jen has become as good a seaman as they come. Following the increase in Warship escorts for Merchants around the Cape, Jen found her usual life as a Corsair becoming too dangerous, and the pickings more slim. She decided to become a sailor for hire, using her skills to sail and protect ships she once would have raided, before making her way to the far south and signing up with the Heritor Helga Stormchild, on an expedition to the ghost Archipelago

Personal history

Jenny was born in a small village, south of Vennitar city, near the very end of Cape Vennitar. Her mother raised her alone, along with her six siblings, for her father was a crewman onboard a Corsair vessel, raiding Merchant vessels that made the voyage between the Eastern- and Western-kingdoms. When Jenny was ten years of age, she was forced to work on a fishing boat, to help her mother earn enough money to feed the family. At the age of fourteen, Jen's Mother and her two youngest siblings died from disease, Her eldest sister took over caring for their youngest sibling, while her elder brother had joined the crew of a Corsair ship, making his own way in the world. Jen used the ocean to escape her grief, and also joined a Corsair crew. For many years, she sailed up and down the coasts of the Western-kingdoms, attacking the gold laden ships returning from the Eastern-kingdoms, or seizing cargo from those heading East with goods from the Western-kingdoms. For many years, Jen improved her skills as both a sailor and a fighter. She received a reputation from the rest of the crew as a ruthless fighter, fighting harder than most when Merchants fought back to save their cargo, or a naval ship from one of the Western-Kingdoms engaged the Corsairs. Despite her reputation in battle, and her hardworking nature, many of the male crew on board the ship cursed Jen, calling her ugly, for the the way her face seemed to be formed in a permanent frown. Those who made those comments to her face, usually walked away with a broken nose, or worse. Her few friends on the ship would stand by her side when things got bad, but that didn't stop the comments behind her back. At twenty-seven, Jen decided to leave her life as a Corsair, after an increase in Western-Kingdoms naval ships, guarding the Merchant vessels along the coast resulted in the death of many other Corsairs, and the sinking of a great many ships. Fearing, that a continuation as a Corsair would ultimately lead to death, Jen, along with a few others went ashore in the small coastal town of Copperholm, in the Kingdom of Lorisham. There, Jen signed on with a Merchant ship, offering her services to protect the vessel from those she had left behind. Working on the Merchant vessel proved lucrative, and the further south they voyaged, the safer it became. By the age of thirty, Jen had grown bored of the quiet southern seas, jumping from one Merchant vessel to another, only encountering pirates and corsairs every other voyage. While between voayges, she heard that many Merchants were being recruited to sail goods down to the southern parts of the Western-kingdoms for a great war that was coming. Eager for the excitement, she signed up with a Merchant ship and sailed south to the kingdom of Ondos. The Captain of the Ship told Jen, he was heading to the fabled Ghost Archipelago after this voyage, and offered her a place among his crew for the expidition. Having only heard wives tales of the lost isles, Jen was all to eager to sail there, if the stories of cities of gold and mountains of jewels were to be believed. A days sailing out of Ondos, The Merchant vessel ran into a naval battle between Allies of the Kingdom of Ondos, and the neighbouring Kingdoms attacking the southern kingdom. Jen's vessel was attacked and, after a bloody battle, the Merchant defenders managed to cut free from the naval ship and escape. Unfortunately, Many of the crew had lost their lives, including the Captain. Jen's heart sank with grief from the defeat at sea, and the opportunity to sail to the Ghosts, gone with the captain. When the vessel finally arrived at the besieged city, the City Defenders were victorious, and the much needed supplies onboard the Merchant ship were offloaded with haste. Walking along the busy harbour front, Jen heard that another voyage to the Ghost Archipelago was being planned by a Heritor by the name of Helga Stormchild. The Ship the Heritor was planning to sail was needing crew, and Jen signed onboard, her heart filling with excitement.
