Cedric "Foibel" Calam

Cedric "Foibel" Calam is a historian that served in the Langevin Academy of the Arcane. He is credited with keeping the records of the academy. Born in Isfa during the seventh age, Cedric showed a unique aptitude for remembering specific events and created a short hand for note taking. As a result, Cedric Calam has extensive notes on a variety of subjects involving the discussions of the masters. Much to the chagrin of his colleagues, Cedric has a fleeting mind, earning him the nickname "Foibel".

Personal history

Cedric Calam was born to merchant parents that traveled throughout the Cunab gulf. During these travels, Cedric would constantly recite the names of the people that they would meet. When they would return to these places, Cedric would be able to recall each of the names, even though seasons would have passed. His parents were fascinated by this ability and sought to develop it. Initially petitioning the cartographer's guild to take Cedric as an apprentice, Cedric would draw the attention of the arcanist's guild. While Cedric would show little aptitude for the arcane, Cedric's recall would help the arcanist's search through documents connecting meaningful events. Through this, Cedric would identify arcanist scripts referenced in ancient ruins and solving missing texts in various incantations. This would gain the attention of the Langevin Academy of the Arcane. At the young age of ten, Cedric was sent to the boarding school to assist historians with reading ancient scripts, decyphering coded messages, and restoring documents.   Cedric would spend most of his days in the library at the academy, restoring historical archives.   One of Cedric's most accomplished works is the mapping of "Damrin's Descent." What would be come to be known as a "Foibel's Echo" is the occurrence of a repeating, tangible phenomena that repeats in predicable manners. "Damrin's Descent" is a tragic event that occurred when Lord Damrin sought to destroy his own people. In an effort to abate the destruction, Isfa took the village as a protectorate. The battle that occurred resulted in the destruction of both armies. The events were largely misunderstood until Cedric Calam identified the pattern of events. By mapping these events and interpreting the interval, Cedric Calam was able to navigate comfortably through the Echo. This stunned the historians that he traveled with. Fearing for his life, his companions called to him just as Cedric stepped into churning fires. Eventually, Cedric would remerge. Cedric would later say, "Did you know that Lord Damrin was killed by a foot soldier? He tripped on the ground and that was it. Quite a disappointing end to the story." Cedric would continue to make a record of the events of Damrin's Descent, connecting accounts captured from Isfan records. While no other echoes have been recorded in such an extraordinary extent, "Foibel's Echoes" provide some of the greatest insights into history.
