Clergy of Zamsera

The Clergy of Zamsera, or clergy as they are known within Isfa, are the members of the Holy Order within the Holy Empire of Isfa. The clergy are well-known to be predominantly proficient with binding magic, but this is not a requirement for being part of the clergy. While it is possible for any member of Isfan society to become a member of the clergy, the dedication required is often too steep for some to bear. Yearly, there is a call for those who are willing to enter into the Aspirants, a collection of individuals who are striving to learn the doctrine and principles of the Holy Order of Isfa, including the elements required to lead and occupy towns, regions, and territories that are under the protection of Isfa. As such, the clergy of Isfa serve more than simply religious and theoretical positions, but positions that require oversight. Thus, studies in history, religion, trade, and writing are mandatory.   When the Aspirants graduate into the clergy, they are chosen to fill various positions. These positions are given to them by those within the clergy, often by the Aspirant Master to fill vacant positions within the empire. As the empire continues to grow, unfilled positions abound. Thus, it is generally assumed that aspirants will fill positions far away from the capital of Isfa. However, positions may fall under the umbrella of governance, military leadership, trade regulation, and even as emissarial explorers (those who travel and establish relationships beyond the main delegations aside from capital cities).   The clergy is foremost led by the Champion-King Illiam Castell who sits upon the Seat of Order. This tradition has survived for generations as the Illiam Castell continues to survive. However, at the close of his years, during the rising of Dahiel and the Ofadahil, there are those that have wondered what would happen to the clergy. There are sects within the Clergy of Zamsera that believe that the organization and preservation of the people takes precidence over the presiding authority. Contrarily, there are those that believe that Zamsera would call a new champion to fill the role of Champion-King.   During the closing years of the clergy of Zamsera, when the Seat of Order broke, the clergy were spread throughout the world acting as clerics, priests, and governors that continued to serve the people. The broken hierarchy as a result of the fall of Zamsera was softened by the extensive knowledge of the Aspirants. The clergy would eventually be numbered among those that were able to salvage order in the regions disturbed by the coup d'etat of Dahiel. As the clergy of Dahiel sought to take a foothold of the people, gaining the faith of the clergy of Zamsera was the first obstacle. Years would pass before the reformation of the broken states of Isfa was brought to a close and the government of Isfa restored.
