Demulcent Denes

The Demulcent Denes is one of the most picturesque regions near to Northwood Aquameasure. Situated between the Northwood Aquameasure and leading into Nugnur's Pass is the area known as the Demulcent Denes. Initially discovered by explorers attempting to find a passage north towards Haralon, the explorers noted the tranquility and inviting nature of the land leading eastward. However, at the eastern edge of the Demulcent Denes is a "tall expanse of mountains that prevent any reasonable travelers from venturing beyond". The Demulcent Denes became one of the essential stops for explorers looking for an Eastern passage through the Mireroot Mountains and the eventual discovery of Nugnur's Pass.   The Demulcent Denes contains a wide variety of shade trees that are parted by water falling from the snowcapped Mireroot Mountains. The fertile soil became a draw for settlers seeking property into the frontier regions. This brought miners, leading to the discovery and breeding of the Forage Root that harvest within the Dene. One of the draws of the Demulcent Denes is the shelter that is provided by the valley walls on either side, the freshwater provided by the mountain runoff, and the notable lack of large game within the territory. The naturally fortified area has drawn those seeking a new life. However, the natural shelter does not mean that the Demulcent Denes is easy living.   The lack of light caused by the high valley walls means that the Demulcent Denes was in a perpetual state of twilight. While the daylight could be seen from the reflections of the snowcaps, those that dwell within the Denes would need to be accustomed to life within the dark. It was only after the fall of Zamsera, when the world began to turn, that the true glory of the Demulcent Denes was revealed. The turning world brought new life to the Denes as travelers became more willing to reside with the new day/night cycle.
