Fosser
Death in Isfa is often filled with consternation. While the first Champion-King Illiam Castell withstood the grasp of death beyond what is fathomable by many, there are those for whom death comes much sooner. While death represents a parting of the sovereign and the parallel with the deceased ferried into the Gloaming Shroud, there are many that know that this is no always the case. The threat of becoming an ethereal being tethered to the world is all too real. Wraiths, spectres, and other beings abound in states that earn no envy. Thus, the clergy of Isfa employ Fossers.
Fossers are specialized undertakers that ensure that the dead remain dead. While there are occasions where the body may be preserved should a means arise for resurrection, in general the Fosser is responsible to ensure that the dead do not become corrupted or violent. The Fossers watch over the graveyards of the deceased, including the mausoleums where the dead and ashen are stored. While clergy themselves, the service they provide requires a keen mind and also being fearless. Fossers are numbered among those that become most acquainted with the pain that awaits should the dead stir. This may breed paranoia but also an inevitable feeling of dread. This degeneration has led many to believe that Fossers are jobs for the lowest of the clergy. However, among the clergy, they are venerated as essential. Fossers serve as the first line of defense against the unrest that stirs within so many.
While Fossers where the traditional garments of the clergy of Isfa, they carry special lamps that contain Barisstones. These lamps are known to illuminate the trails of those that are dead should the dead be named. As such, the Fossers are known to hold the lamp and ritualistically chant the names of those under their perview. This forboding sound instills a fear within those outside the clergy, further causing the masses to take their distance from the Fossers.
