Suppositions on Elemental Time
In the perceptibility of the passage of time is only so because we can feel the affects. We associate with time the growth and deterioration of things. The change that we associate with a child becoming an adult is called time. The cycle of the growth of our crops is called time. And the process whereby we overcome the feeling of being left alone by those who have come before us is called time. In these cases, time is an intangible substance that we believe that we observe based on how things change.
In this journal you will find my studies on the physical interaction of time. This is elemental time, just as one might observe elemental fire or elemental air. While far more rare, elemental time is believed known to exist through the use of guide stones. Unfortunately, the first time that elemental time was observed, the guide stone was in the possession of a young boy. The brief exercise of demonstrating elemental survey would process the anisochronosis in the boy. As if moving through many instances of actions not taken yet believed to be taken, the child's body would begin to deteriorate. Were it not for the Silencers at the library, I believe that the child would have died. The Silencer's were able to sufficiently sedate the time. However, it is believed that the child still exhibits portions of the effect.
Thus, elemental time was known to exist, but in what quantities. Unlike the similar elements, extracting information regarding a rare element becomes a challenge. There is little information about what minerals or elements interact with elemental time to produce an observable event or effect. Thus, we are given back to experimentation. Throughout the years of experimentation and collection of minerals believed to contain elemental time, we attempted to elicit a response. Through trial and error, we discovered that time is reactive to light and dark elements. Similarly difficult to find, especially in large quantities, it was discovered that time may "renegotiate" the flow of essence. Thus, as dark elements are prone to disintegrate essence, or diffuse essence that has no order, elemental time may restore the order of the system. Similarly, light elements are prone to order or organize essence. Elemental time may alter the structure of that order. Imagine a seed that has grown to a plant. The seed has sprouted, elongated, blossomed, and perhaps born fruit. Suppose then that the plant was diseased and parts of the plant was destroyed. Strictly speaking, that part of the plant is gone. For elemental time, of parts of elemental time, may consider that event never happened, restoring the lost part of the plant and the lost essence with it. The essence is somehow tethered to the elemental time and parts of elemental time to elemental time. The connection are negotiated are some point when the creature or object comes into existence or is planned to come into existence. Now consider that the seed has not grown, but intends to grow. Elemental time may accelerate that growth to a predicted state. These are the dangerous times. Unlike for the reversal, when essence moves to a lower state to fill it, this case progresses a state, but there is no surplus of essence to fill it. Thus, the body of a thing exceeds its means to maintain. Without immediate intervention, the substance degrades.
While there has been no evidence to suggest that a creature that has perished will suddenly reorganize, elemental time is a chaotic, nefarious lover that chooses its own way. The period of renegotiation is still unknown, leaving anything to possibility.
Elemental time is most commonly found in the Barisstone, Carnelian Stones, or other gems. These stones have been used to store bound essence, thus giving the impression that they were holy or filled with light. While this is also is true, rare elemental time can also be found within. This perhaps is one of the reasons that these stones find favor with augmentors, alchemists, or enchanters.
But one cannot cease their observations on elemental time without considering the saturation of elemental time within an object. Originally, experiments failed when trying to organize time, as one might refine ore. One might believe that elemental time joined with itself. However, it is quickly observed that time alone will separate. Thus, time can only be saturated as a part of a structure. One must gather parts of elemental time bonded to similar elements. I have managed to construct an object made from elemental time and elemental geo. The object is a peculiar creation in that I observe the geometric structure turn in on itself. The structure appears to remain constant, yet changing. Stable, yet unstable. At any moment, I question whether I am actually looking at the object. And when I touch it, I feel as though I see things that could have been or brief glimpses into what may be. But when I let go of the thing, I cannot remember what it was.
