The Fall of the Leaves
At the borders of the Dandandekadan forest, foresters collected shorn timber. Raising them into the trench, the palisade stands erect. The refuse was gathered and burned for warmth and cooking. Raucous laughter rang out through the mist that drifted through the moist brush. Clouds released the heat from the burning sun. Suddenly, a voice ordered the gate to be opened. Several scouts hastened in, carrying the body of one of their companions. An arrow protruded from his chest. The foreman demanded an answer to what happened. One looked at him, carrying an arrow in his hand, and said a single word "Elves."
Years have past since the last elvish emissaries arrived in the halls of Isfa. Subjected thereafter to persecution, elves disappeared from the colonies and social centers. Few would notice this as elves vanished from their memories. While many believed that the remaining elves died out, others believed that they escaped into the shade. It is known that many of the elves despised the destructive cultures of the great cities. Thus, the expulsion of the elves was not otherwise contested.
As the borders of Mashangist expand, the demand for greater resources and land continues to grow. Commissioned by the House Drest, foresters were dispatched to the borders of the "Man-Eater" wood. By clearing the woodline, the border region would be expanded with a buffer region. This buffer region would allow watchmen to warn of encroachments into the territory. The expedition included surveyors, soldiers, foresters, and the camp followers. Before the foresters arrived, the surveyors, composed of adventurers, were to explore the territory to identify risks and any resources. As the "Man-Eater" wood is aptly named, the adventurers found vicious plant-like creatures. However, the parties must push forward.
As work begins, fortifications are created to be a safe-haven. As axes fall, the cries of the forest reverberate through the oaken halls. Leaves fluttered in the trees, watching and seething in anger. Wooden masks painted in the dyes given from the flowers, the elves watched from afar. The adventurers past by, perhaps able to perceive the presence of the elves, perhaps not. To the people of Mashangist, this is a place of demons to be purged. But a first battle starts the plot.
As the elves are discovered, the situation is at a climax. The elves have decided to eradicate the camp of hundreds of workers and their families. The guards prepare to hunt the elves and call to Mashangist for support. This battle takes place in an unforgiving terrain surrounded by poisons, barbs, and grasping vines.
