Moon-Rising

Moon-Rising is one of the oldest daily traditions in Amnari culture. It predates even the late Keshwari period, when it was a fundamental part of their daily ritual practices. It may have its origins in a much earlier tradition first developed by the Ancient Anther, although the evidence for this is scant.   In the Modern Amnari era, the tradition is most associated with either the River in Amin Duum Exclusion Zone, or Rooks and Kings Ruins. The latter hosts an annual gathering on the first night of The Harvest of the Souls, which opens the festivities for students who are due to graduate. In this case, the Moon-Rising tends to be more rowdy than is usual, although Moon-Rising festivals whenever the Moons cross are considered to be particularly important gatherings, especially for older students and young graduates from the Academies.

Observance

Moon-Rising is technically held nightly, although who attends to actual ritual observance varies, depending on shift and work duties. The tradition is intended to observe the rising of the two moons, known as Sankanthara and Iastraphe after the principal Gods of the Void, over the eastern horizon. The tradition is a pause, usually of between thirty minutes to an hour, when anyone participating pauses in what they are doing to appreciate the end of the day. This takes many forms depending on who is participating and where, but it is considered to be one of the rituals that Amnari take with them everywhere, and is universal throughout the Alliance.
