Industrious students can create magical and non-magical objects.
Mundane Item Crafting
Crafting a non-magical item requires three things:
- Access to the relevant tools
- Proficiency in the related toolset
- Access to appropriate materials totaling half of the item's market value.
With these things, you can start crafting the item in question, making progress over time. Progress is measured in gp value, so valuable items generally take longer to craft.

Working Together
If a proficient character with access to the correct tools works with you, they contribute their progress towards the project.
A non-proficient assistance adds half the normal progress towards the project.
Magic Crafting
Crafting a magic item is complex. You must build an object of high quality that will serve as a permanent spell matrix, designed in ways that store, shape and deliver magical energy. You must also infuse it with a huge amount of magical energy to make sure that the spell matrix remains charged. As such, crafting a magic items requires that you be a certain level spellcaster, have a schematic that models the item's magical matrix, and expend a large number of spell slots to complete the item.

Schematics
Every magic item (except a
Spell Scroll or a
Potion of Healing) requires a schematic.
Ioth Academy has a large library of schematics for almost every imaginable kind of magic item, but access to these schematics is restricted. You must obtain permission from a teacher to receive a copy of an item schematic.
Alternatively, you can try to research the schematic yourself, or steal it. Researching a schematic requires an Intelligence (Arcana) check equal to the Schematic DC. Stealing it requires two successful checks out of the following (same DC): Dexterity (Stealth), Dexterity (Sleight of Hand), Charisma (Deception), or Thieves Tools.
Once you've successfully created a magic item, you can add it to your schematic book and recreate that item henceforth.
