Casselltinera
One of the four most powerful families in Andarud. Casselltinera earned their place of power through mastery of artifice. They own many of the forges and workshops in the Skyless City and invented processes for rapidly producing weapons and armor for customers. If you find Andarud equipment in the field, it will likely bear the Casselltinera mark.
Culture
Innovation and efficiency are the hallmarks of Casselltinera. They carved out a spot for themselves among Andarud's elite by simply being the best artificers. They do more physical labor and hands-on crafting than most of the other families, combining skill and artifice to seamlessly bind magic and material. They are also clever financiers, identifying needs in the market and switching production as needed.
Among themselves, the Casselltinera have little regard for ceremony or tradition. They are outspoken, from the elders of the family to the children. Family meals are a rarity in Casselltinera households. There is little distinction between rooms or times--bring your food to the workshop so you can keep practicing this new enchantment. They tend to be loud in private and more quiet with strangers or outsiders. This isn't shyness--they're watching and listening, waiting to find out what you need so they can be the ones to give it to you.
History
Casselltinera herself was a low ranking artificer born a generation after the founding of the refuge, circa ~5500. After spending lots of time with the Huldra of Caonach, Casselltinera experimented with their techniques for binding magic into living wood, looking for a way to similarly integrate spell matrices into metal objects. Her success allowed her to produce enchanted armor and weapons faster than anyone else, and she pursued trade with strangers from the mountains to the North-East. This, along with some key political partnerships, quickly made Casselltinera very wealthy. She established a guild for artificers and in one more generation, that guild identified as the family Casselltinera. During her life, she expanded production to build workshops for promising commoners and craftspeople, focusing on the Surfaces where most of the ordinary folk lived. This helped her expand her power base and gave Casselltinera's family popular support.
Since then, Casselltinera remains a powerful force in Andarud, willing to engage with outsiders and strangers as long as they have some skill or something to offer.
