Charir

Of all the Ten Tribes of Okarthel, none produce so many sorcerers as the Charir Tribe. Dwellers of the highest mountain crags in the east, the Charir build towers and cliff-mounted spires that rise towards the sky in defiance of the gods themselves. The Charir tribe consists primarily of humans, dragonborn and kobolds. Their ancestral patrons are a small clutch of red dragons. These dragons keep to themselves and the Charir rarely bother them, respecting their power and territory. Only the mightiest of the Charir sorcerers dares to approach the dragons in their lairs, and only when bearing worthy offerings and gifts.   Draconic heritage means everything to the Charir. The blood of dragons literally flows in their veins, imbuing them with the same magical fury that shattered the armies of the Infernals at the end of the Dawn. As such, the Charir are ruled by sorcerers--magical power means earthly authority. Each settlement is under the purview of a single powerful Sorcerer, the Rimem, and the most magically gifted of their children inherits the title after their death.   The Charir have little farmland in their lofty territories and so they make their living through magic, conquest, and occasionally trade. The volcanic mountains where they live are rich in minerals and gemstones. Charir Rimems adorn themselves in gold and red precious stones--the greater the display of wealth, the greater that settlement's prestige among the others.   Reputation is also of vital importance among the Charir. Sorcerers are prone to challenging each other to duels. Most often these are not lethal, as the Dragon's Blood is sacred, but ritualistic magical combat serves as a way to satisfy matters of honor, insults and offenses, and reinforce the social order.   The Charir love meat, wealth, fame/pride, and magic itself. They play games of wit against each other and plan strategies for years on end, giving them a playbook to draw upon at any time. Displays of weakness are a cause for contempt among the Charir.
