Mental characteristics
Personal history
Grew up in the refugee camp outside of Ioth Academy, running around with friends having fun and being as happy as he could be. At the recommendation of Old Ramona, he started to apprentice at the herbalists' shop, where he first discovered the wonderous effects that can be had from mixing strange herbs and other ingredients.
When the Ioth mages came to relieve the flood damage, they found him in the flood damaged herbalists' shop, mixing healing and pain killing potions and poultices for his community. They were impressed with his ability and sensed a spark of magic in his work, so they took him to be enrolled at the Academy right away, assuring him that they would take good care of the refugees going forward.
At the Academy, Cüper continued to practice his alchemical arts, mixing all sorts of concoctions as side projects with effects that other students enjoyed. Buoyed by the reaction of the other students to his various mixtures, he soon became the de facto supplier for alchemical goods for students and teachers alike. He, of course, enjoys the effects of his own creations himself for various reasons, but mostly to maintain his own happy-go-lucky attitude.

Indulges in his own potions on an increasing regular basis. It started out as necessary testing when creating a new recipe, then to help him relax, then to help give him energy and keep his mood up for those late nights filling orders (or studying), and then to deal with (or avoid dealing with) any bad news.
Though he is somewhat careful to make sure his brews do not create a physical dependency, he does not understand what psychological dependency is.
Terrible at keeping secrets. He'll remember the thing that's supposed to be a secret is important, but unless it's directly relevant to his day to day interests, he will forget that the reason he remembers it's important is that it's supposed to be a secret.
Personality Quirks
Hiccups when under the influence of certain types of alchemicals.

Family Ties
Family still lives in the Refugee camp. They always tell him everything is fine when they write to him.
Social Aptitude
Is very people pleasing and friendly. Has noticed girls seem to really like it when you compliment them, but isn't intentionally being flirty.
Tends to misread negative or serious situations and lighten the mood.
Mannerisms
Is very bro-y with everyone, with a sprinkling of The Fonz. Hasn't fully embraced the full bro-nacular, but give it time. Prone to getting into and talking a lot, in an almost stream of consciousness way.
Will almost yell if he gets excited about something.
Wealth & Financial state
He typically takes payment for his good in alchemy reagents, and is able to get almost anything he needs, including from some of the teachers and caretakers. The Green Gala was a Gas
When Cüper heard about the ritual that takes place at the Green Gala, he immediately started hatching a plan to have some fun with it.
He started asking around for information was able to learn a lot about the ritual and goblets, but also that pulling anything off when the goblet is spilled would be tricky. He didn't have any practice with remixing potions meant to be drunk to work when delivered as gas.
The first attempt didn't go too well, as it vaporized right away and made Cüper turn into a gaseous form right there at the alchemy station. Though he did enjoy the sensation, and was sure Untermauler would as well, he would need some extra help to get the formula correct. He was able convince his alchemy teacher to give him some general assistance about re-formulating his potion and managed to perfect his Gaseous Potion of Gaseous Form.
On the night of the Gala, he was able to slip some of his potion into few of the ritual goblets, but in his excitement in the moment, he failed to consider, or even remember, which goblets he need to spike to get Untermauler. When the ceremony came, instead of Untermauler getting gassed, he and couple of other got gassed instead. He made a show of enjoying the moment before settling back down.
While he got pulled from the Gala and got a lecture about administering potions to people without their consent, something about allergies and medical conditions, he found out later that the Gala was quite fun, which was all he was after anyways.
He did have to smooth things over with his alchemy teacher, but an aerosolized version of the teacher's favorite drink and a sincere promise that this was the first and last time he'd trick anyone into coming under the effects of a potion without their consent meant that soon things were back to normal.
Academy kids just want to have fun
6857-6861
At the Academy, he was assigned to The Cove. This probably wasn't a sick joke by the staff on a kid that had just survived a terrible flood, though he did seem at home in that flooded herbalism shop.
Using the cooking tools and herbs from his cooking craft, as well as things he was able to scavenge around the Cove, he continued to experiment with what he now knew was called alchemy during his free time, but without direct guidance from his teachers in the first couple of years, he was able to experiment freely where he discovered all sort of interesting effects, both mental and physical. While his focus was always on finding and perfecting knew effects, he discovered that he always quite enjoyed testing the concoctions on himself, as well as sharing what he made with his classmates.
By his second year, other students were starting to come to him for his latest brew, or to ask for something specific. While he was happy to help them out, it did start taxing his supplies, which pushed him to start taking payment for what he made, just to help replenish his stock, of course. He also learned about the mordayn flower in his herbalism and botany class, but was unable to convince the teacher to give him a sample to experiment with.
In his third year alchemy class, Cüper naturally excelled, but also butted heads with the instructor over the topic of what constituted a side effect. Fortunately, the instructor was more impressed than annoyed with his arguments, and allowed Cüper the chance demonstrate the what were traditionally undesirable side effects could instead be made into potions (if you could still call them that) in their own right. For this challenge, Cüper created a particularly smooth tasting but intoxicating brew for the alchemy teacher to try. The teacher felt almost instantly more relaxed than they'd felt in years if not decades, and agreed to unofficially sanction Cüper's side work. Still wouldn't get him a sample of mordayn flower, though.
Thanks to his core course work and artifice class, Cüper started to be able to incorporate small amounts of magical energies into both his alchemical processes, and finished products. This greatly expanded what he able to make for people, which now included students and a few teachers. He hadn't made any real friends in all this time, though. He spends so much time experimenting that the only people he saw regularly were his regular customers.
When he graduated to The Ring, between word getting around to the other lodges at the Green Gala (not saying any drinks got spiked, but not saying they didn't get spiked, either), older kids that had already graduated from the Cove to the Ring, and teachers talking to each other, he already more than a few people asking his stuff in the first couple of days. Not everything that was asked about was of the intoxicating or psychedelic nature, however. A group of older girls came to him asking if he made any skin or hair care products, something that had never occurred to him, but he was invigorated by the challenge.
With the much larger population of The Ring, so too did the amount of concoctions he had to make. He did manage to outsource some of the simpler recipes to other alchemy students, but he was still doing the vast majority of the work himself. He started turning to his own potions more and more to keep his energy and mood up.
Refugee kids just want to have fun
6846-6857
Born in the refugee camp outside Ioth Academy, Cüper was a kid like any other. His parents wanted to protect him from the existential despair of the refugee camp and focused on teaching the importance finding happiness where you can, and helping others do the same. Cüper took this to heart as he played and ran around with the other kids in the camp, often getting into mild trouble for the sake of a laugh, and often getting away with it since the sound of laughter the kids' laughter was often enough to lift the spirits of the adults such that they wouldn't complain too much.
During this time, he would often stop to listen and sometimes talk to Old Ramona. It was during one such conversation where Old Ramona suggested that if he wanted to help other people, he should start learning from man that runs the herbalist shop since many people would go there to feel better. Cüper liked this idea and started visiting with the herbalist when he wasn't out with his friends. The herbalist was bit gruff, and liked to stick to what he called the rules of herbalism. Really, they were just a fixed set of recipes that produced mildly effective mixtures. Cüper learned these recipes quickly, and soon started experimenting to try get stronger effects, after the old herbalist had left the shop, of course. It didn't take much experimenting before he stumbled across a concoction that created a mild euphoric effect. Cüper was thrilled with this discovery and shared with his friends, who all enjoyed getting high off the mixture. When he told the old herbalist about his discovery the next day, the herbalist told him that that euphoric effect was an undesired side effect, and then chastised him for breaking the rules, before sending him back to work. Cüper didn't get why the herbalist thought feeling good was an undesired side effect, wasn't that the whole point? He resolved to ask the next day, but never got the chance.
Later that night, the monsoon rains came and flooded the camp. When the rains cleared, Cüper discovered that the herbalist had died that night in the flooding, trying to make it back to his shop to keep his stock from getting ruined by the flood waters. Surrounded by the devastation of the flood, Cüper helped out the only way he knew how, by mixing potions and salves to help his the people as best he could. Working with soggy herbs and equipment, Cüper churned out painkillers, healing wraps, and fever reducers at a speed that surprised even him, he even accidently developed new mass production techniques in the process. When the mages from Ioth Academy finally arrived in his part of the camp to relieve the suffering and fix the damage, they saw the work that he had been doing and were impressed by his ability. Before the day was done, they had already made arraignments with his parents to take him to the Academy that evening, and of course they assured him that now that the mages were here, everything would be fine in the camp going forward.
