Luwynn (Loo win)
One of the four most powerful families in Andarud. They rose to prominence after the Dance of the Seasons, and their heritage includes Alfar, Fey and Huldra lineage. They've maintained a strong tradition of sorcery and art.
Structure
The strongest sorcerous talent of each generation is considered the leader of the family. This leader can retire, but once they do so they cannot resume their previous position except in a crisis when the current leader dies.
It is only occasionally necessary for two Luwynn sorcerers to challenge each other to determine whose gift is stronger.
Any Luwynn born without a sorcerous gift is disinherited from the main family line and must take the name Na'Luwynn, instead of An'Luwynn.
Culture
Luwynn values self expression and creativity above all else. They express this in their fashion--always outrageous, always pushing the boundaries, always unique. They put themselves into their works. Luwynn is loud, passionate, expressive, and dramatic. They practice art alongside their crafts.
Public Agenda
It's no secret the family Luwynn has always wanted the role of Cothromóir Mór, and an An'Luwynn has bourn the title more than once over the years. They are longstanding rivals of An'Andarud, but never bear them true ill will or malice--just a passionate determination to one-up them.
History
After the Dance of the Seasons in 5734, Luwynn An'Angren, an eladrin sorcerer of the Winter Kingdom, traveled to Andarud. They brought with them fairy magic and spells of winter. At first, Luwynn was almost thrown out of the city, but through sheer single-minded determination and demonstrated mastery of magic, Luwynn earned first the grudging respect, then the acceptance of the Cothromóiri, and became one of the first outsiders to be admitted to their ranks. Luwynn passed their name down to their children, deliberately announcing the foundation of a new dynasty in Andarud.
Since that day, Luwynn's sorcerous bloodline lives on, occasionally renewed by deliberate liaisons with the fey. They aggressively push the limits of spell research, priding themselves on unconventional and creative expression and solutions in magic. Many of the strongest war magic spells sold by Andarud have Luwynn ingenuity at their core.
