Personal history
Nynniaw was born in Lasair seventeen years before the Death of Erecura and the rise of the Demonic Imperiums. Her mother left shortly after giving birth, choosing to wander the world outside the refuge, leaving her in the company and care of Vesstan Seoda, her father. In those days, the Alfar let their children mature slowly, exploring the world and absorbing its wonders, but that ended when the Infernals set their armies upon the world. Nynniaw beheld firsthand the horrors that befell the Fomhor elves, even as her own people withdrew to the safety of the refuge.
After that, the Alfar changed their ways. Where before, young elves weren't expected to take on a trade or choose a profession until they reached their first century, now they lived in a world surrounded by danger and evil. Nynniaw was set to work learning the arts of Flameweaving, a craft for which she had an innate knack.
Upon reaching her first century and completing her apprenticeship, Nynniaw refused to stay in Lasair, despite her father's pleading. She set out into the world, wielding the art of Flameweaving to defend herself against evil, determined to see the world, understand the stakes of the ongoing conflict, and learn magical arts from other cultures. She adventured to the Fomhor woods and spent time with the Autumn Huldra.
Years later, she departed Fomhor, wiser and more learned from her experiences, but as she climbed the Bulwark Mountains to reach the Caonach Vale, she ran afoul of a patrol from Narzm Province, The Iron Empire lands seeking to conquer the lands that divded the Autmmn Huldra from those of Angren, Celulinde and Tumlaire. Led by the dread hunter Bazhvaah, the Imperials wounded her with a poisoned arrow and marked her with magic that led them to her, no matter where she fled. Injured, poisoned, and rapidly becoming sick, Nynniaw had to use all her cunning to stay one step ahead, struggling to cross into the Vale while her strength fled and her blood spilled. At the very height of the mountain pass she collapsed, and Baazhvaah moved in to claim his prize and drag her back to Narzm.
Even as he seized her by the hair and pulled her to look him in the eye, she spun a cord of fire and wrapped it around his throat. He dropped her and she crawled over the boundary into the Vale. Here, the power of the Huldra King reigned, and nature itself rose to block the hunter's path. For the rest of his days Baazhvaah harbored hatred for Nynniaw in his heart, and though he never caught her again he spent the rest of his life hunting for her. In the end, she simply avoided and outlived him.
Nynniaw spent a century in the Caonach Vale, mingling with each of the Huldra courts, dazzling them with her arts and learning from them in return. It took her some time to heal from her ordeal, and even then she had no great urge to leave the safety of the Huldra King's magical power. But, finally, she felt it was time to move on. She was eager to study other magic and see other artistic wonders, and so she set out to the South East, towards Andarud.
Here, among the great smiths and artificers of the Skyless City, Nynniaw's mastery grew by leaps and bounds. She learned how to weave molten iron and steel into weapons, apprenticing herself once again to a maker of magical weapons. This lasted hundreds of years, and she was well renowned--for an outsider, of course.
In 6834, Nynniaw became concerned with the business of Andarud's leadership. Since the disappearance of Lamruill An'Andarud, the Cothromóir became much more aggressive about trading with the Dragon Tribes and other nations, offering weapons and deadly spells to both sides of conflicts. Instead of assuaging disagreements between those who stand against the Infernals, the leadership of Andarud was stoking those conflicts for profit.
As her fears and discomfort with her own work grew, Nynniaw met a young Alfar with similar reservations and a soul filled with music. Caratus her name, her voice rich and husky, her songs beautiful but melancholy. United by their values, they soon fell in love, and together made a plan to steal the weapon Nynniaw's teacher had been creating for years. On a dark night, they broke in to the Cothromóir's vaults, seized an unfinished weapon, and fled Andarud. Though Caratus mourned the place where she was born, her love for Nynniaw meant that wherever the flameweaver went, there her home would be.
So the two returned to Lasair, where they were wed in local custom by the Speaker of the Flame. They moved in to a humble home near the outskirts of town and plied their trades, living a quiet and happy life.
Arianna
Their lives changed forever when a young Hillfolk girl somehow stumbled through the veil protecting Lasair. The couple took her in, adopted her, and raised her as her own, loving and cherishing her until the fateful day that Inril Untermauler told them her destiny lay at Ioth Academy. Since then, they've cared for her from afar, sending her letters, trying not to let the shadow of growing tension with Andarud--and her own criminal history--darken their daughter's life.Sexuality
While she's taken various lovers in all her journeys, Nynniaw is mostly attracted to women.
