Each class you take has two tests each year--midterms and finals. That means that in total, your student will take 10 exams each year.
Each exam is worth 10 points for your grades. That means that if you nail all your exams and don't miss any assignments, you should get 100 (perfect grades).
Tests are divided into two phases: Studying and Testing.
Studying
Studying is an activity that takes 1 Time Point and increases stress by +1. Studying is only effective the week before a test (although it's a good way to stay prepared for Pop Quizzes).

Roll a skill check (see STUDYING for details). On a success, gain one re-roll during an exam. On failure, no benefit. |
After spending 1 time point and increasing stress by 1, you make a Skill check based on the method you used to study. You can justify a lot of options for studying, as long as it's something that would actually help. Options include...
- Intelligence (Arcana): Practicing spells in the warded test range
- Strength (Athletics): Doing another student's chores in exchange for help
- Charisma (Deception): Getting the teacher's pet to leak you the answers
- Intelligence (History): Studying the history of an arcane topic
- Charisma (Intimidation): Bullying the teacher's pet into helping you study
- Intelligence (Investigation): Searching the library for useful material
- Intelligence (Nature): Testing arcane theories on plants
- Charisma (Persuasion): Politely asking someone to study with you.
There are plenty of other options.
The difficulty class of the check depends on what year of school you're in.

Testing
Each exam takes place during normal class hours, under teacher supervision. Exams begin 10 minutes after classes start, and teachers scan all students for active spell effects or magic items. Any student detected using magic to help them during an exam automatically fails that exam. Students are not allowed to cast any spells during an exam.
If you successfully studied for this exam, you may reroll one of your two ability checks. You are also allowed to use your Student Die (if applicable), and any non-magical/ancestry features (such as the Adaptive feature).
Each exam has two specific ability checks attached to it. You can see the two checks, and their DCs, on the
classes article.
- Fail Both: You failed the exam. +1 stress. You gain no additional grades. See the grades article for more details.
- Fail One, Succeed one: You pass the exam. Add +6 to your grades.
- Succeed Both: You ace the exam. Add +10 to your grades. Reduce stress by -1.
