Vital Energy
All life contains powerful energy. If you can convert another form of energy into life energy, you can heal or grant life. If you can unbind that life energy from its substance (blood, for example), you can use it as a source for other types of magic.
Properties
- Vital Energy is most suited for applications pertinent to life and the body -- healing, empowering, feats of heroism and more.
- Effects that drain vitality from living creatures are usually empowered by Necrotic Energy, which draws Vital Energy towards itself.
- Vital Energy is one of the most easily converted and accessible forms of power. All living creatures have Vital Energy. This can be tapped within the self to power effects, but usually leads to fatigue, exhaustion, or in extreme cases, death.
- Blood is the physical substance most suited for containing, storing and accessible Vital Energy. Most "Blood Magic" is just a magical art that focuses on tapping into and unlocking the vital energy in blood.
- Sacrificial rituals that involve killing one or more living creatures are used to harvest their Vital Energy in works of magic.
Methods & Practices
- Blood Magic, a form of practice that focuses on accessing the Vital Energy in blood -- often before it's even been spilled.
- Sacrificial Rites, in which living creatures are killed or blood is spilled, to use as a source of Vital Energy. Closely linked to Blood Magic,
- Defiling, a magical art that drains Vital Energy from nearby plants (and in some cases living creatures) to fuel spellcasting.
Sources
- All living beings contain some amount of vital energy. The more powerful that being, the more Vital Energy they possess.
- The Otherworld has more ambient Vital Energy than the Mortal World.
- The Sun channels both Elemental (Fire) and Vital energy into the world.
- Earthblood is the most powerful, concentrated form of Vital Energy.
