The Leaky Mountain

High in the Northern Hemisphere of Ananke, looming over the landscape, is a spectacular sight - the Leaky Mountain. This huge mountain stands alone, and received its name affectionately due to the myriad of waterfalls scattered across every face of it. These waterfalls are part of a great many streams that snake their way down the slopes, spilling out to become the large, powerful rivers that separate segments of Ananke's countryside. In fact, there are so many all around the circumference of the mountain at all manner of heights, that it is incredibly rare to ever look at it on the horizon and not be greeted by colourful reflective displays as they catch the sunlight at different angles. It almost looks like the mountainside is littered with gems.
"Hey, you ever think about, like... what'd happen if we plugged up the Leaky Mountain?"   "Alright, you're cut off for the night..."

The Foothills

At the base of the Leaky Mountain, as the ground begins to slope upward, the lowest waterfalls spill into the great crevasses between the sections of land thrown together by the Source (briefly covered in The Empty Ocean during Ananke's creation. These crevasses and canyons fill and become the mighty rivers that wander the land and influence the environment so heavily. The foothill areas are swarming with the presence of the The Saints of the Source as it gives them the perfect launching point to sail downstream. There are no distinct cities, more like camps, as the Saints believe in being able to pack up anything they need and take it on the water with them. The presence of them prevents civilised folk from being able to access the mountain, and as such, the natural wonder is admired from afar, almost wistfully, and seldom does anyone consider trying to approach.

The Ascent

Higher up the slopes, passage is difficult. There are no paths worn into the mountain, and the area is rugged, with many short cliffs or unstable slopes prone to landslides. Trees are scattered around, but moderately sparse in their formations. Up here, the streams amble sideways until they cascade down, always in varying distances. It's possible some waterflows complete and entire circuit of the mountain before touching down to the bottom, but it's impossible to tell, so convoluted is their path.   In this portion of the climb, wildlife and flora are intensely different from other places on the planet. The water here has such a high concentration of Erodite that the mutations are significantly more advanced on their evolution path. The Saints occasionally make forays up here to give tribute to creatures they believe to be "Ascended", but despite the higher population of "Ascended" creatures compared to elsewhere on Ananke, it is rare for them to do so as it means going on foot.

The Overflow

At the very summit of the Leaky Mountain is a true environmental marvel, though virtually nobody on Ananke has ever seen it. At the peak is a huge, flat area, as though someone had lopped the tip of the mountain clean off. The vast majority of this span is taken up by a breathtaking lake, called the Overflow. The water here has all the glimmer and shine of a crystalline beach, but the is a unique light purple shade. The sun pierces through enough to see dozens of metres into its depths before it darkens. Around the edge of the lake are denser patches of trees, spanning the few hundred metres from the steep decline to the edge of the lake.   This lake is the source of every river on Ananke. As explained in The Empty Ocean the water on this planet is an endless cycle, flowing through the land as rivers, spilling into the Empty Ocean, and filtering down to the Source before being forced back out to complete the cycle again. The Overflow is where the water emerges, enriched with Erodite in high concentration, to spill down into the rivers once more.   If one were to stand at the edge of this lake, it might not be immediately apparent where the rivers actually begin. The circle of trees around the lake is relatively unbroken, aside from a few small creeks that trickle between the trees and over the edge of the mountain. Most of the main water outlets that flow down into all the waterfalls that give the Leaky Mountain its name actually flow out through underground tunnels, gushing out at varying distances down the mountainside. This is part of the reason that the surface of the lake is still and undisturbed.
