Pre-Packaged Meals, also known as PPMs or Shifties, are food and drink items issued to personnel on spacefaring vessels while on shift. All pre-packaged meals are made up of four parts: the main, a dish that is in a larger portion and is more filling than the other parts of the PPM; the side, a dish meant to supplement any missing or reduced food groups of the main; the snack, a usually sweet dish provided for the mental health of the personnel; and the drink, a powder meant to be dissolved in water to make a flavored beverage.
PPMs are not pre-made meals, often requiring ingredients to be combined, cut, boiled, or otherwise cooked. Many ships will employ cooks in order to ensure their active-duty personnel are fed.

Common Types of PPMs

There is not only a single type of pre-packaged meal. In fact, there are multiple varieties meant to fit the various dietary requirements and restrictions of the Humanoid species of the universe. Some dishes are only offered by certain companies as well. For example, AGTech's spicy tuna. A list of pre-packaged meal types are as follows:

Pre-Packaged Meal Vegan (PPMV) — PPMVs do not use any animal products in their makeup, including dairy and honey.

Pre-Packaged Meal Meatless (PPMM) — PPMMs do not use any meat in their makeup, including lab-grown meats.

Pre-Packaged Meal Gluten Free (PPMGF) — PPMGFs do not use products with gluten in their makeup.

Pre-Packaged Meal Egg Free (PPMEF) — PPMEFs do not use products with eggs in their makeup.

Pre-Packaged Meal Dairy Free (PPMDF) — PPMDFs do not use products with milk in their makeup, including cheeses, butters, and non-cow milks.

Pre-Packaged Meal Religious (PPMR) — PPMRs are designed specifically to follow all religious dietary restrictions set out by the 15 largest religions in the universe.

Pre-Packaged Meal Lab (PPML) — PPMLs only use synthesized ingredients. These are the most common PPMs with intergalactic travel, due to their stability in extreme conditions. PPMLs are notable in that they do not require heat to prepare.

Pre-Packaged Meal Jagodoan (PPMJ) — PPMJs are commonly made from ingredients that would otherwise be unsafe for human consumption and are most often styled after Jagodoan traditional meals.
