Constable of Bur Riding

The position of Constable of Bur Riding is a royal appointment with responsibility for defending Bur Riding and mustering and drilling the militia.
Legally, the Constable can require any free able bodied person of Bur Riding of mature age to report for military service for a total period of twenty-four days in any calendar year.  Anyone so called upon must provide themselves with a helmet, spear and bow.  Shields and swords are provided by the Constable, if required.
