DOC 4: Chego's Dream of Eku

Eku appears to Chego in a dream. The scenery and their clothes are always changing, and Eku’s appearance flickers between the middle-aged dark-skinned Chultan you know and an iridescent feathered serpent. After asking how everyone is and making sure everyone is still alive, Eku tells Chego what has been happening in Chult.   The last time the Assassin’s Vine saw Eku was after fighting trolls a month ago at the wreck of the skyship ‘Star Goddess.’ She planned to escort the few survivors of the crash back to Valindra Shadowmantle at the floating Heart of Ubtao. From there, Eku tells Chego that they made it back to the aldani swamp village of Mossoth.   The village was still rebuilding after the attack of the Wraith King and his undead army, so Eku and the crash survivors helped with the repairs. As the days passed and wounds healed, the aldani began talking about what to do next. Having to deal with occasional roving undead is one thing; contending with the Wraith King and his growing — and organized — force is another. Being practical lobsterfolk, the aldani realized they needed allies, so they sent out deinonychus riders to everyone they could think of. The riders were to ask each potential ally to send delegates to a council at Mossoth.   Eku tells Chego that once this council meets, they hope to assembly an army large enough to cleanse Chult of the undead scourge once and for all. And then they will turn to Omu. Eku asked Chego how they had gotten to Omu from the wreck ‘Star Goddess’ and Chego gave her directions.   Soon after, Eku drifted backwards into the distance, her voice became deep and discordant and her features blurred and melted into those of a horrifying dark, hooded figure. Instantly the tone of the dream went from inviting to hostile and darkness crept in to the edges of Chego’s vision while the color seemed to drain out of the world.   Chego jerked awake drenched in sweat (or panting heavily, whatever tabaxi do). Parts of the dream, at least seemed real, but you can never really know. Maybe being isolated with a small group in a hostile place is just making his dreams invent stories of reinforcements on the way.
