Gaiyaan Desert

Giants and dragons have been seen in the distance from passing ships.

The largest desert in the world, the Gaiyaan is known almost entirely from the maps of sailors exploring the eastern coast and the Dawn Sea. It is known to be vast, with nothing but sand stretching hundreds of miles, broken only by enormous weathered rock formations. Giants and dragons have been seen in the distance from passing ships, though it doesn't seem as if the desert could sustain them. Air, earth and fire elementals (along with other creatures of fire) thrive in the Gaiyaan. It is not known whether the Tarqans risk their caravans in the desert. There is no known government, settlement, or trade route in the Gaiyaan. A possible exception are the temples of Maeslyn, trickster goddess of fire, day, and the sun. Maeslyinte temples and shrines are presumed to be fairly common in the Gaiyaan, and may serve as trading posts and as a kind of desert-wide communication network.

There are still creatures in the Gaiyaan unknown to the rest of the world.

The Gaiyaan is one of the few refuges for dragonkind. They are found in large numbers in the desert.

Djinnikind is found more often in the Gaiyaan than anywhere else. They often work with good dragons to keep the hostile dragons in check.
