Rashael, the Twilight Kingdom
Rashael, like all the dwarven kingdoms, closed their doors to the surface world centuries ago.
In legends from before the coming of the dragons, there were always seven dwarven kingdoms near the surface, though only one — Rashael — was known by name. No one but the dwarves even knew where it was. In time, the seven cities closed their gates, tired of being drawn in to the wars and chaos of the surface world.
The dwarven kingdoms are said to have been founded at the major access points to the Underdark, and the dwarves’ cities served to block the passage of the Underdark’s creatures to the surface world. Long centuries underground also changed the dwarves. They became paler, with colorless eyes and white hair.
The dwarves encountered in Ter’esreal are most often descended from clans that were left outside when the dwarven kingdoms’ door were shut for the last time. Some stayed on the surface by choice, some were stranded, but all have been cut off from contact with their underground kin for thousands of years. Over the millenia, their skin became less pale and their color returned.
