Fortunes of Ravenloft
The events of this adventure are part of dark twists of fate that a fortuneteller or oracle can discern. One method is with a tarokka deck. Before the adventure is run, you may draw cards from a deck to determine the following elements of the adventure:
- An area of weakness for Strahd in the final encounter
- The placement of three important treasures that can be used against Strahd: the Tome of Strahd, the Holy Symbol of Felis, and the Sunsword
- The identity of a powerful ally in the fight against Strahd
The Tome of Strahd
This card determines the location of the Tome of Strahd. Flip over card 1 and read:This card tells of history. Knowledge of the forgotten past will help you better understand your task.
The Holy Symbol of Felis
This card determines the location of Holy Symbol of Felis. Flip over card 2 and read:This card tells of a powerful force for protection, a holy symbol of great hope.
The Sunsword
This card determines the location of the Sunsword. Flip over card 3 and read:This is a card of power and strength. It tells of a weapon of vengeance: a sword made of sunlight.
Strahd's Enemy
This card determines where the characters can find a powerful ally. Read the boxed text for the appropriate card. Flip over card 4 and read:This card sheds light on one who will help you greatly in the battle against the darkness and mist.
Strahd's Weakness
This card reveals where Strahd can be found when the party confronts him in Castle Ravenloft, or corralled to if they meet him under different circumstances. If the party fights Strahd in this area, the Sunsword and Holy Symbol receive bonuses (see their respective articles), and may either receive the ability to re-do a critical roll, or add a die to a critical roll. Read the boxed text for the appropriate card. Flip over card 5 and read:The lord of this land is a powerful man, slave to darkness and chaos, whose powers are beyond mortality. This card will lead you to him at the most opportune moment.
