When facing a particularly difficult lock or puzzle, the DM can introduce this mini-game. Get a pool of six D6's, and refer to the table below. You must meet the challenge, which is based on the DC of the lock. Your pool of D6's is equal to the number of instances you must meet plus your Dexterity/Intelligence modifier (whichever you are using for the lock/puzzle.) If you have proficiency with thieves tools, you can choose to re-roll the entire pool, and using the total number of instances from
both pools to determine whether you succeed.
For extremely complex locks such as safes or complex puzzles locks, the player must first pass either a Dexterity/Intelligence check against the DC of the lock/puzzle. If they pass, then they can proceed to the mini-game as normal. If they fail, they can still attempt the mini-game, but they do not add dice to their pool based on their modifier.
