Outer Planes
If the Inner Planes are the raw matter and energy that makes up the multiverse in its physical form, the Outer Planes, known also as the Afterlives, are the direction that form is given, with thought and purpose crafted for every construction.
As with the Elemental Planes, the perceptible parts of the Outer Planes are mostly borders of the plane itself, while beyond that border is a formless expanse of spirit which is entirely beyond ordinary sensory experiences. Every plane is different fundamentally from any other, and these differences form the natives of that plane.
Distance and time are relative concepts in the Outer Planes. The Planes sometimes appear to be entities in their own right, with whims and desires that allow them to manipulate the experiences of all within. They do bow to the wills of the gods and lords that rule over them, but often they have a will of their own.
There may be many more, but there are fifteen known Outer Planes. They are the birthplaces of fiends and celestials, who are born and created in service of the deities that live in the Divine and Unknown Planes. Despite being known as the Afterlives, only ten of these planes can be afterlives for mortal souls which are, perhaps coincidentally, the ten Divine and Worldly Planes, which contain 'child planes' that house gods and archfiends. No creature can travel to or from these child planes, but the creatures who inhabit them have a vast power than can extend to any other Plane in the system.
