The Limits of Magic

Due to the unique nature of the Anchored Planes, there are some magical effects that are available in RAW Dungeons & Dragons that are not available to characters in this setting.   All "Conjure" spells from The Players Handbook, and all "Summon" spells from supplementary materials, are replaced by the Summon spell.   The following spells are unavailable (in alphabetical order):

  • Conjure Fey
  • Conjure Minor Elementals
  • Dream of the Blue Veil
  • Gate
  • Guardian of Faith
  • Hunger of Hadar
  • Infernal Calling*
  • Planar Ally
  • Planar Binding
  • Planar Shift
  • Summon Aberration**
  • Summon Celestial**
  • Summon Elemental**
  • Summon Fey**
  • Summon Fiend**
  • Summon Greater Demon*
  • Summon Lesser Demon*
  • Summon Shadowspawn**
  • Wish
The following spells are available, but are limited (in alphabetical order):
  • Astral Projection (your astral self cannot pass through portals to other planes except as detailed in the Planar Travel article)
  • Banishing Smite (the target will always be sent to a demiplane, and never banished to its home plane, regardless of its origin)
  • Banishment (the target will always be sent to a demiplane, and never banished to its home plane, regardless of its origin)
  • Commune (the cumulative 25 percent chance of receiving no answer begins when you first cast the spell, not upon subsequent castings)
  • Creation (the matter used to create your object comes not from the Shadowfell, but from the Ethereal Plane)
  • Dispel Good and Evil (this spell cannot be used to send a creature back to its home plane)
  • Divination (the cumulative 25 percent chance of receiving a random reading begins when you first cast the spell, not upon subsequent castings)
