Currency of the Realms

Coins in Andali are one of the few internationally standardized practices of the world. Each coin comes with the image of an emperor stamped on the "heads" side, whether that be the emperor of the Aurelian or Fulminarian Empire depends on where you are in the world, but for the most part coin is coin and both are accepted in either empire. On the "tails" side is the crest of where the coin was minted: a rose from the Rose Protectorate, the Dragon Tree for the Theocracy, a tower for Illemnor, a warforged holding a pickaxe in the Red Mountains, a golden sun for the Aurelian Empire Proper, and a crown of lightning bolts for the Fulminarian Empire. Coin abbreviations and alternative names are as follows:
cp. Copper piece, or nib, found throughout the world of Andali in every country. 10 cp equals 1 sp.
sp. Silver piece, or dragon because of the relation to Arctiax the great silver dragon in the Theocracy. Silver pieces are the most common coinage amongst commoners everywhere but are so abundant in the silver mines of the Crow Hills that some traders in Ignix do not accept them as valid currency. They are worth 10 cp.
ep. Electrum piece, or blue eyes. There is a central hole on this coin that permits it to be easily strung on a ring or string. It is used in trade ports for purchasing large amounts of cargo at once, as this function allows for ease of counting. 1 ep is worth 2 sp.
gp. Gold piece, or suns, are the most common coinage amongst adventurers in the world. It is amazing their market hasn't been flooded. They are worth 10 sp.
pp. Platinum pieces, or platinum roses, are exceedingly rare coins worth 100 gp. Not many places use them, but everywhere accepts them for payment. If you receive payment in platinum, there is a chance you are being paid directly by a mint itself.

Trade Bars are an alternative form of currency normally used by large scale merchants and money lenders. Because large numbers of coins can be difficult and dangerous to transport and account for, this is the preferred method of trade for many vendors. They are most commonly ingots of precious metals and alloys (usually silver) likely to be accepted by virtually anyone. Trade bars are stamped or graven with the symbol of the trading company or government that originally crafted them. These bars are valued by weight, as follows:
  • A 2-pound silver bar is worth 10 gp and is about 5 inches long, 2 inches wide, and 1/2 inch thick.
  • A 5-pound silver bar is worth 25 gp and is about 6 inches long, 2 inches wide, and 1 inch thick.
  • A 5-pound gold bar is worth 250 gp and is about the size of a 2 pound silver bar.
