Kenku
Once, there was a noble species of humanoid birds. Their dark, ravenlike feathers marked them as individual from the rest of aarakocra. They studied the arcane arts, perfecting their techniques, and surpassing all others in their skill. They researched deep into the annals of history, digging into the past and unearthing secrets that they used to constructed a grand city, a monument to their triumph. They revelled in their grand villas, calling their home Kyrrix. Until they cracked a seal that was never meant to be broken.
The brilliant birds were struck dumb. Cursed by the Archivist for delving into forbidden knowledge, so much of their minds were locked away they became only able to mimic speech they had heard before. Within but a single generation, their forms became diminuative, they left the stage of leadership in Kyrrix, and became wanderers throughout the land, searching for the key that would unlock the knowledge of their forebearers.
Kenku still continue that search for that key. They gravitate towards high population centers or academic establishments, hoping to hear whispers that might set them on the path of discovery. They become great mages in their own right, or become renowned bards and entertainers, but still yet none have found the answers they crave.
