The Devil
The Devil is the god of vice, sin and penance. Songs to the Devil sing of temptation and temperance, vice and virtue, and the unending conflict between desires of the heart and the logic of the mind. The Devil holds dominion over the infernal creatures of Hell; devils, named for their master, which tempt Mortals with infernal bargains that offer their soul as tender, or something of equal or greater value. The Devil was second to corrupt Mortals; the Rider stirred raw, wicked ire in their minds, driving them to murder and war, but the Monarch quelled the tide of blood that followed with the gift of law and temperance. The Devil was there to find ways around the law and corrupt the hearts of Mortals.
In dealing with the Many Handed Devil, some Mortals pledge themselves to infernal service in the afterlife and are swallowed from the sands of Manto and dragged to Hell where they perform unspeakable acts on the tortured souls who reside there, warping their bodies and minds over time until they find themselves counted among the ranks of Their infernal creatures. Once they made legend of themselves, gaining rise among their peers, and are one day sent back to the Mortal Sphere to make game of collecting Mortal souls. Nigh on every Mortal soul spends an amount of time in Hell to pay for their sins in life, should they outweigh their virtues when the Judge inspects their soul. For this, the Devil is a god of penance. But, when their time is through, the claws of Hell release their soul to rest in Serenity, and so too the Devil is a god of redemption.
Worship of the Devil takes many forms; a whispered prayer for good luck, a soft curse of your enemies, mumbled exclamations of lust. Apotropaic icons at the threshold of a paupers house to deliver them from temptation, or summoning circles hidden in the cellars the oppulent patriarchs, frequented by the bloody sacrifices of the innocent. Symbols of the Devil are known to frequent houses of sin across the empires. Cults of the Devil appear on occasion, but many keep to themselves to avoid judgement of the other divine houses.
