Dhohlia
The Dhohlia are plant people of the Southern Islands. They are elusive and, to the extent that they are considered at all, are assumed by many to be a creative fiction dreamed up by Prinlochin explorers who want to make their travel logs more interesting.
While the southern islands are an archipelago the plant people are spread across them.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Dhohlia are birthed from a seed pod that grows on the Nerheth tree. Once the seed matures the Dhohli rolls out of its pod and is able to walk and find food from birth. Sexual maturity does not seem to be present at birth but the unusual nature of the Dhohlia and the difficulty of obsevation leaves many questions.
Ecology and Habitats
The Southern Islands are covered in thick jungle. While Dhohlia can photosynthesize their location under this thick canpoy does not allow for enough nutrition and they absorb nutrients through a rich brine found around the Nerheth trees. Dhohlia spend much time in this brine, absorbing nutrients and entering into a type of communion with others of their races. It is postulated that a great fungal complex runs under the shallow waters surrounding the Southern Islands that link the Dhohlia together mentally. Any experience of one Dholi can be shared with any other Dholi as long as both are in their brine pools and this experience is not limited to one island but is shared throughout Dhohlia territory.
Biological Cycle
A Dhohli separated from their brine pools can survive via photosynthesis and brine pools are not needed for life as long as adequate sunlight is provided. A Dhohlia separated from their group becomes mentally unbalanced and after a time will do anything they can to return not just to any island but to the island of their birth. This compulsion is strong enough that Dhohlia will make attempts to return even if it is clear that the attempt will lead to the Dhohli's death.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Dhohlia appear to have the sensations of touch, sight, and hearing common to the other races, but any sense of taste or smell seem to be missing. However, the Dhohlia can feel even minor tremors and can share in the senses of other Dhohlia.
