'Coastal Elves'

'Coastal Elves' are a population of Wood Elves that have made their home in the trees near the southern coast.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

They speak one of the Elven languages but have their own dialect.

Culture and cultural heritage

Food 'Coastal Elves' diet consists of a lot sweet and salty dishes, due to the vast amounts of fruiting plants and sea salt salt they have access to.

Average technological level

The 'Coastal Elves' are famous for their salt related goods, from salt blocks, salt sticks, etc. They scoop up vast amounts of sea water up into the branches of the trees they live in and spread it into massive, shallow containers. The water then evaporates, leaving only the salt behind. This salt is a valuable trading commodity, for Elves crave salt, while Humans use it in preserving foods.   To get the salt water from the cove to the branches of the tree the elves have developed technology to lower and lift buckets constantly.

Common Dress code

'Coastal Elves' tend to wear a bit more clothing than their inland cousins, in order to protect their skin from the additional sunlight they are exposed to. They also tend to wear wide brimmed hats to help shade their eyes.

Art & Architecture

Wooden bridges are a lot more common, and longer in 'Coastal Elf' settlements due to the increased distance between trees.

Common Taboos

While 'Coastal Elves' have less of a fear being on the forest floor due to the increased amount of sunlight that reaches it, they are terrified of the deeper waters of the ocean. From their vantage point in the trees they can see massive dark shapes swimming in the waters past the cove, and they have no plans on finding out what it is.

Common Myths and Legends

The 'Coastal Elves' have many legends involving the nearby oceans, many of which involve the creatures that live in there, or of individuals that were lost to the ocean.
