'Elven Genet'
Humans have their dogs and cats, Dwarves their slimes, and the Orcs their Drakes, Wood Elves have the 'Elven Genets'. Arboreal cat-like creatures, these genets were domesticated not long after the original elves made their homes high up in the trees. Originally the Elves kept the genets as pest control in their food stores, but in modern times more and more people are keeping them as pets.
While Basic Information
Anatomy
Bearing a slight resemblance to cats, these genets have long bodies and long tails. Their claws are semi retractable.
Genetics and Reproduction
Females give birth to 1-5 young per litter and typically have two litters per year.
Ecology and Habitats
'Elven Genets' are only found in the canopy of the 'Elder Forest'. To see one on the floor is a rare sight, and typically they are either dead or dying. Nocturnal, the genets spend the night moving throughout the interwoven branches on the search for food. During the day they seek out holes in the trees to sleep in.
Dietary Needs and Habits
'Elven Genets' are omnivores, and will never turn down the chance to hunt insects and small mammals. They also love certain fruits.
Additional Information
Domestication
As more and more people become interested in keeping them as pets the more selective breeding takes place. Several breeds have been developed and more and more are being created every year.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
When the 'Elven Genet' was first domesticated the Elves mainly kept them for pest control. Insects and small rodents had kept getting into the Elve's food stores, and the genets were more than happy to hunt these pests. As time went on, more and more Elves became interested in keeping them as pets. Some genets have even been given away during peace negotiations.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Their eyes and ears seem comically large for their face, but this gives them excellent hearing and nocturnal vision.
