Bunyip, General

Several species, including King Pratie, Wowee Wowee, Tuna tabah, and Dongus.

Basic Information

Anatomy

These creatures resemble a cross between a shark and a seal, though their appearance can vary greatly between species. They typically have a thick, muscular upper torso, a long tail, are covered in short fur, and a wide mouth filled with sharp teeth.   Depending on the species they can have a small dorsal fin, flat heads, fish-like tails, long necks, beaks, or flowing manes. There are rumors of a species of bunyip that looks like a humanoid.

Biological Traits

Sounds They have a loud, booming cry that can carry for miles. Their cries are typically heard during or after heavy rains, but are never heard during droughts.     Temperament Considered to be aggressive.

Genetics and Reproduction

Typically bunyips breed in the late spring and become highly aggressive during this time. The males leave shortly after breeding, and don't help raise pups. The female will give birth to 4-6 pups per litter, and care for them the first few months of their life, but after that they will chased away after that.

Ecology and Habitats

These aquatic beasts are widespread, being found in arctic to tropical regions. They prefer shallow waters, and can be found in both freshwater and saltwater. Bunyips are commonly found in inlets, mangrove swamps, riverflats, waterholes, etc.   They are very territorial.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Fierce hunters, bunyips typically patrol along shorelines, waiting for prey to come to the water to drink. They have been known to eat folk.

Hibernates in dens deep in mud and during droughts
