Cockatrice
Basic Information
Anatomy
These turkey sized creatures look like some cross between a rooster and a snake. They have the body and head of a chicken, dragon-like wings, and a long, snake-like tail. Their beaks hide razor sharp teeth. Males have wattles and a comb, while the rarer females lack these features.
Biological Traits
Myths
There are many misconceptions involving the cockatrice. One of the biggest ones, is the belief that their glare alone can kill most creatures and wither any plant except the rue, which is said to be resistant to it.
Venom
Venomous bite can stiff muscles, making it feel like the flesh is calcifying.
Genetics and Reproduction
There are several legends that claim that the first cockatrice was hatched from a roosters egg after it was incubated by either a snake or a toad.
Ecology and Habitats
Native to temperate plains, the cockatrice has proven to be very adaptable, and is quickly becoming an invasive pest outside of it's native range.

Main diet is seeds & insects.

Weasels and ferrets are immune to the cockatrices venom and will steal their eggs to eat them.
Roosters are highly aggressive towards them, and will fight a cockatrice to the death to protect the flock.
