Manticore

A highly dangerous predator that some believe the 'Ancient Ones' created.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Manticores have a lion-like body and a vaguely humanoid head and face. They have a gaping mouth filled with three rows of razor sharp teeth. A pair of dragon-like wings rests upon its back. The tail is scaly and the end of it is a ball of long, venomous spines. Both males and females look very similar, and it can be very hard to tell them apart.

Biological Traits

To defend themselves, Manticores will flick their tail towards a threat so loose spines will shoot out and impale the threat.

Ecology and Habitats

Mainly found in tropical forests and warm hills, Manticores need large tracts of land for their territories, and will patrol this area frequently. When not patrolling their territory or hunting, they tend to be resting within their lair, which can be located within cliffs or hilltops.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Fierce predators, they have no qualms with eating humanoids, and even seem to prefer them. Manticores will stalk their prey until they are close enough to flick their highly venomous spines at. Every last bit of their prey is eaten, including bones and any clothes or random items the prey may have. When humanoids aren't available, they tend to eat just about any other medium sized creature, and even carrion is fair game.

Social Structure

Manticores are either solitary or live in prides of up to six individuals.
