Meteorite strikes, while rare, are a major event for a local civilization. They can either bring a major boon in the form of rare metals and gems, or great devastation if the meteorite strikes a town or important structure. Usually meteorites fall one at a time, but every few centuries a bunch will all fall at around the same time.
Some parties, mainly Dwarves, have located enormous meteorites that fell long before written history. These meteorites are hidden deep underground, and harvested in secret.

Manifestation

Meteorites often have gems and metals in them and rarely they contain a metal called 'Star-Metal'.
