Marblesong Society

The Marblesong Society is the predominant Craafters' Association on the continent of Cindras. Although the Society was only formed 37 years ago, its roots go much further back. The Marblesong Society is the result of several separate guilds and associations banding together to create a more profitable organization.   The organization was founded by Thravula Marblesong, a prominent jeweler from the Confederacy of Hammerdeep. The Society is now run by a six-member council, with Thravula casting deciding votes if necessary. Each council member is a Master of their chosen profession and represents that profession on the council.   The organization now controls most of the Blacksmiths, Jewelers, Leatherworkers, Tailors, Tinkers, and Woodworkers in Cindras, and is trying to make it difficult to make a living for those who try to work outside of its ranks. They do this by working with local governments to enact laws restricting the production or sale of goods not crafted by Society members. The laws are meant to ensure the quality of the items.   Because of these tactics, the Marblesong Society has grown very wealthy and powerful in a relatively short amount of time. The public at large seems to have little concern for the Society or its behavior, other than grumblings about the increase in prices. Those who have a true grievance with the Marblesong Society are those who have refused attempts at recruitment or who have been kicked out of the organization. Though they are an organization that aims to include all craftspeople, they are strict when it comes to breaking its principles. The Society does not hesitate to use bad standing or revocation of membership for anything more than minor infractions or mistakes.

Core Principals

Authenticity. Members acknowledge that what a crafter creates is their livelihood, as well as a reflection of their skill, labor, and artistry. As such, the association holds authenticity as sacred. A member shall never, under any circumstances, claim another crafter’s work (whether that crafter is an association member or not) as their own. A member can sell the work of another crafter, but must clearly identify the maker of each item. Violating this principle can result in disciplinary actions such as fines, fees, or other penalties paid to either the association or the original crafter of the items. Penalties may also include demotion or nullification of membership.   Appreciation. Members know that they rely on many others outside of their own particular practice. All association members make it a point to learn about where their supplies come from and the people that enable them to do their work. A member will, to the best of their ability, contribute any efforts and aid they can to those linked to their work in such a way.   Service. Clients must be taken care of. If they have special needs, and the client can cover the necessary costs, a member will work to ensure that those needs are met, even if that means recommending the client to another crafter who may be better suited to the task.
