Barbro

A species of sentient, war-like creatures. Mainly humanoid, they are able to grasp and use the same tools and weapons humans can, which has led to a few...problems.
Over all, they can be reasoned with, but do not like strangers in their settlements very much.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They are slightly taller than the average human, and are much more reptilian than most other discovered intelligent races. They have many lizard or alligator-like features, such as claws, osterderms (back plates) and a large, paddle-like tail.

Biological Traits

While they do have claws that need to be trimmed, similar to human nails, their claws are just straight bone, not keratin. The females are the smaller of the species, with some only reaching 5 feet tall. The males however, can reach heights of over 8 feet tall.

Genetics and Reproduction

They reproduce the same way humans and most Earth animals do.

Growth Rate & Stages

While they are humanoid, they do, in fact, hatch from eggs. The scratchlings are then treated just as human babies would be. They have growth rates similar to that of humans.

Ecology and Habitats

While they are often called the 'top predator', they often refer to themselves as the 'balancers' of the planet, cleaning up what others have left behind.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They are omnivores, eating plants and whatever animals they can find. They aren't picky about their food supply, as long as it's there. They often go on hunting parties while on the backs of Nomads.

Biological Cycle

Every few weeks, they shed their skin, usually eating it when the process is over. If it gets to cold, they go into a sort of coma, leaving us to assume they are cold-blooded.

Social Structure

They often get in arguments, but are always pleasured by food or a drink, especially the larger males. The young mainly stay away from males, due to their habits of killing unattended young.

Many of them have slight scars or dents in their head plates from fights. Most have yellow or orange eyes, but some have been reported to have black or even purple eyes.

A few small populations still live on their original island home, but most live on the mainland.

Naming Traditions

Only first and last names are used, and the first name is usually chosen by the young themselves.The last names usually surround some sort of negative trait, such as the 'black bloods' or the 'stein-gorgers'.

Major Organizations

They have many organizations, mostly small businesses and trading posts. The King's Court considers themselves an organization. There is also a band of thieves and assassins living in the cities' undercofts.

Beauty Ideals

Many of the females decorate themselves with furs or precious metals, while the males usually wear chain necklaces, and sometimes wear the skull of a vanquished foe as a back plate.

It, as many topics do, varies greatly depending on ethnicity.

It depends, in one settlement, males may be paired by others, while in others they may choose their mates.

Sometimes marriages are forced, only a pact between two families. In others they are revered as romantic and celebrated as they are on Earth.

They have achieved about the same technological level, as most other species of sentience have, to the renaissance in Europe.

The major language is Barbrole, which is mostly just a series of somewhat understandable roars and growls.

Common Etiquette Rules

While they have war-like and aggressive tendencies, they are actually quite well-kept and clean creatures. They are often criticized by dirty/ragged clothing, or scales with no shine.

Common Dress Code

Females and males usually wear about the same style of clothing, usually going bare-chested or fully clothed in skins and furs. Do not worry, Barbro do not have the same external features of humans.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

They mainly worship the Guardians, who do and don't agree, it depends on which Guardian you ask.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Depends greatly on the place and time, as some places may burn the dead as a funeral, others may eat them as to not waste good food.

Anything involving any kind of tentacalan is stricktly prohibited. They are considered dirty beasts and should not be touched.

History

In the early years BVP, they migrated nearly their entire species to the Eastern continent. From there, they established settlements, and built walls and towers and eventually had established holds and forts.

Currently, they are at peace with most species, now having a Tournament of sorts with other species in games like swimming, wrestling and more. If you ever find yourself on Animoterra, i can't recommend it enough to watch one of the games, it's amazingly entertaining.

Common Myths and Legends

None as to date, other than the normal tales of Tack-tara and whatever story pops into a young one's head.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

There is often a special individual that is honored with the task of securing interspecies relations with other intelligent clans throughout the Continents, usually a hybrid. As for the Barbro, their relations are something to be debated, as they are often great allies to have at any moment, but can be deadly enemies if wronged.
