Covenant of the Crowns
At the end of the Crowns War, High King Roderick I had secured his place of power. The kings who had resisted his rulership now bowed to him or were replaced with more aquiescient peers. However, as Korinthia's first High King, his rights and responsibilities needed to be clearly defined. So the rulers came together and drew up the Covenant of the Crowns. Here they first pledged their allegiance to the High King and he pledged his responsibilities in return.
Roderick's primary concern was the encroachment of the Holy Ardian Empire, so the High King's primary responsibility is to the security and stability of Korinthia as an independent nation. To this end the High King has great military powers to conscript and move forces as needed, whereas the other Kings must still maintain rulership within their own realm. The High King also acts as a mediator and court between the other Kings. It also required the High King to send aid when petitioned by the others. Finally, as a united kingdom, the covenant acts as a general non-agression treaties between all areas within Korinthia.
The signing of Covenant of Crowns was hailed as a landmark event. It was the end of conflict and the beginning of what would be an extended period of peace. Shortly after the signing by all parties, Roderick's official corronation as High King was held in the city of Calthas as a celebratory affair.
It did indeed stop the Westward progress of the Holy Ardian Empire, thus succeeding in Roderick's goals, a main point in favour that is pointed out to any critics in the intervening years. When Roderick I passed and his son, Roderick II, assumed the throne, he invited the current kings back to Calthas and the covenant was renewed. This was accomplished apparently without issue.
