Crown of Tuatha

In the days long before man, the Muintir Brodita—fomorians—ruled with brutal authority. Out of the shining west the Tuatha de Daiyan arrived on their grey ships. Their nine kings shone like stars descended from the heavens, and on their heads each a crown. Three crowns of branch and briar for the forest kings. One of shell and bone for the sea. Two of silver with pearl entwined for the kings that danced to the moon and one of pitch for the dwellers bellow. The golden two with emerald gem shine brightest of all and thus are known the highest of kings.
— Korinthian folk tale
Many tales are told about the treasures and magics of the tuathans, the precurrsors to man and ancestors of the elves. Among these are the crowns of the nine tuathan kings. Each is said to possess powers related to their realms such as nature, seas, the moon and its influences, and the earth. Legends of the last two crowns suggest they would give power to command people's will and sway their hearts.

Modern Day

The whereabouts of eight crowns are unknown. Many believe all nine are but things of legend, as are the tuatha themselves. However, many also believe the ninth crown has been found and is widely known about.   In 775 AE Roderick deCorbeyn was born. He was the son of a minor noble but grew up in the court of King Calder, one of many small kings in Korinthia at the time, and grew close to his son Eoin. Korinthia was in a period of constant border disputes between the many petty kings with no one to unite them. Eventually Roderick found himself on the battlefield following Eoin's charges while the king drank away the last of his liver. After several battles Roderick's place at court had been greatly improved.   A battle gone badly found Eoin's forces routed. Eoin himself was gravely wounded and Roderick was trying to find them safe passage away from pursuers through the woods. As the setting sun shone its last light through the trees a path opened before them. On it stood Eoin's father, the king. He took the body of his dying son and vanished into the light. As Roderick strained to see a new form appeared, tall, thin, and shining bright. It offered him a crown of gold with an emerald inset and set him a quest to unite the warring kingdoms. With the crown upon his brow he returned to the battle, gathered the routed forces and turned the tide.   On his return home he found King Calder had passed the same day as his son. The king's forces immediately swore their allegiance to him and his quest. It did not take him long to succeed and in his 23rd year he was crowned High King of Korinthia. He ruled until his death in 828 AE when the crown passed to his son, High King Roderick II.
