The Vanishing of the Vengeance

For seven years The Vengeance roamed the seas around the Cymrún Isles. Helmed by Captain Jairmir, a giant of a man rumoured to be from the Northern savages, The Vengeance was known to have sent a hundred ships or more to the depths below. Whispers spoke of an allegiance with the lord of Caer Cludynn and dark forces, or a curse borne out of the Whispering Woods, but most believed The Vengeance was driven by the thirst for blood and gold.   It was late in the summer of 787 A.E. and The Vengeance lay low in the water, burdened down with riches it had just taken from a great merchant galley. To Jairmir's great surprise, on boarding the galley he found not only the expected riches but the daughter of a Cymrún lord (his lordship tends to change depending on the teller of the tale) and her retinue, bound for the mainland on a secretive diplomatic importance. Delighted at his good fortune, he took the maid for himself, sent her guards to the deep, and had her attendants distributed with the rest of the booty.   But the fierce Captain Jairmir was unaware fae blood ran in the maid's veins. Trapped and alone below decks, she prayed to Faestra for aid. At moonrise she received her answer.   Above deck the pirates stilled in the evening air as the seas went dead calm with the setting sun. Then as the moon shone its silver light, a path was illuminated across the sea. The wind stirred the ship forward and, not wanting to remain at sea with their treasure, they turned into the silver stream. Quickly they picked up speed while outside the light the waters stayed still.   With the passing of a cloud the silvery stream vanished, and so did The Vengeance, never to disturb the seas again.
