Ballendur's Blood (mac-you-lo-sus fun-gar-us)

Maculosus Fungarus

Maculosus fungarus, nicknamed Ballendur's blood, is a red-capped mushroom known by all that live on Aolara. It grows in abundance wherever the climate remains moderately warm and has a consistent amount of rainfall. The most likely places to find this mushroom is in the marshlands, swamps, jungles, and even boggy grasslands throughout the rainy season. Ballendur's blood are white stemmed with a deep crimson coloured cap speckled with a handful of golden flecks. It is these golden flecks that allow foragers and gatherers to discern Ballendur's blood from some of it's more poisonous cousins.

Ballendur's blood is sometimes referred to as the dying man's jewel. It is a natural resource sought after by herbalists and alchemists alike. This golden dotted mushroom contains a unique property that makes it one of several integral ingredients for the creation of healing potions. Nearly all regions across Aolara are keen to receive a steady supply of healing potions for their denizens, soldiers, and peacekeepers. Therefore, both the creation of said potion and the cultivation of Ballendur's blood can be a somewhat lucrative career choice. Many farmers end up buying or building near marshes and swampland with the intention of growing and farming this valuable little mushroom.

Ballendur's blood gets its nickname from an old folktale about a dwarven hero named Ballendur Amberheart. A saviour to many, he fought and slew hundreds of monsters until the day a monster slew him. There he fell, blood spilled atop the mud, seeping, soaking, spreading around him deep into the soil. His soul took a seat next to Moradin and his body decayed, returning to the earth and stone that made him. One year to the day, dozens of red-capped mushrooms with golden freckles shining in the sun sprouted from the ground where he once laid. Here be the resting place of the brazen and bold Ballendur Amberheart.
