Arlford

Arlford the Quaint, the Most Quaint Town in Noelred

Arlford, named for its place on a ford in the Arl River, is sometimes called Arlford the Quant, or the Most Quaint Town in Noelred. It has a population of 8,000, and its crest is a billet argent on a field of azures.

This settlement’s origin is unknown, having existed since ancient times. It received its charter of community in 1145.

This town is built on the West bank of the Arl River, where it is an important port, and surrounded by agricultural land. Politically, Arlford is in the Barony of Routhe, the Duchy of Valodic, the Kingdom of Noelred, in the High Kingdom of Ayrlium.

The town center is its unified guildhall, and Arlford is famed for its exquisitely made thatched roofs, multilayered, lovely, and designed with true artistry. The town’s market street and major arteries are all cobbled, the rest of the streets are not.

Arlford is defended by a well-tended curtain wall, many towers and an imposing gate.
Its primary church is devoted to this settlement’s patron saint, Jeraldus the Renunciator. The church has a series of false doors that open onto blank walls. Folklore claims these doors once were fixed gates to other places, activated by those who knew the passwords.

Arlford is connected to Lenxos town to the far southeast by a secondary road, and the Arl River ties it to Aevkirk town to the north, and to Orlium city to the south-by-southwest.

The town’s citizens are rosy-cheeked, smile readily, love beer and dancing. Their traditional holiday costume is full of puffs, lace and color. Arlford is well known for its fine clay and exquisite ceramics, called Arlware.

This town harbors a strange secret, for barrow wights are sealed in a barrow now enclosed by the city’s guildhall. This seal is a doomsday weapon, because if broken, the wights will kill everyone, natives and aliens alike.
