(Unique)—Undoubtedly a holdover from pagan times, Barley Tom is a sinister harvest spirit in Hempton, and locals strive to appease him every Lammas. In the old days, he was given blood sacrifices, but now he is honored with holiday biscuits, wine and straw dolls. If he is ignored or forgotten, Barley Tom will summon foul weather or pests to destroy that year’s harvest. No one knows what he looks like, because no one has survived his presence to tell the tale.
