Dathan I of House Osrick

The prince is a visionary polymath, with eyes set on restoring and then expanding the Empire of Aorlis. He was born 1205, and is currently 30 years old. Dathan is a nicknamed the Dynamic, the Builder-King, the Visionary and the Sailor King. He is the Imperial Crown Prince of Aorlis, the High King of the Rhonce, and a Defender Knight. Dathan is Bingum II and Isabelle’s 3rd son, which made him an extra prince, and he was sent off to be educated in the Church with the expectation of becoming a bishop. There is a gulf between Dathan and his father because Dathan’s mother, Isabelle, died during his birth, and she was Bingum’s true love.

The prince is an avid jouster, a gifted fencer and a superb horseman. While it is not well known outside royal circles, Dathan is a burgeoning world-class wizard under Melena Kamith’s tutelage. Dathan has the inborn ability of an animal whisperer, and this incredible affinity allows him to converse freely with most higher-order creatures. He has a passion for animals and he has built the Gwyfnedi royal menagerie to new levels of splendor. He has a special love for dogs, and he breeds and trains mastiffs. The Prince’s royal healing power has already manifested, and he can heal many serious injuries and illnesses.
Dathan’s goal is straightforward, wishing to re-unite Aorlis and make it the greatest empire in the Known World. To these ends, he has invested in the shipyards of Baelrin, funding warship manufacturing, because he believes that sea power is the means by which his empire will grow. He also funds the development of early cannon and gunpowder, hoping to modernize Gwyfned’s artillery. Since the Lord’s Ordainers took control of Gwyfned, Dathan’s allowance has been deeply cut off. This doesn’t faze him, because of the money he collects by being King of Rhonce, and all his many properties, and a series of advantageous monopolies he owns.
Dathan has named his own small counsel the Conquering Quintet, although there are not always five members. This group currently includes Sir Bhradrix FitzOliver, Melena Kamith, Galen Trueheart, Gunfrith the Ax, and Theobald Allbaugh. While Gunfrith runs the prince’s security detail, Dathan is accompanied everywhere by his most attentive guardian, his very protective black alaunt, named Adamant.

Prince Dathan is lean and energetic and he possesses a ringing voice of command, as well as a pleasant singing voice. He is 5’11” tall, with very long, blond curly hair, as befits a scion of the “long-haired kings.”. He has magnetic blue-gray eyes, a light ducktail beard and mustache, and he has a sword-shaped birthmark above his heart, as have all the Osricks.
Dathan is well versed in the portfolio of knightly and royal skills, and he has access to any magic item he may need or desire from the Osricks’ vast royal collection. Dathan has developed several custom spells. Dathan’s Regeneration is a spell that regenerates wounds almost instantly. It may also be used to rebond limbs and heads that were chopped off.

Blaylon

Called the Sword of Clarity, this bastard sword’s pommel is a reliquary for the Eye of St. Blailock. The sword’s bearer may invoke a ghostly eye to scout ahead and report back whatever it sees. Holding the sword grants true vision thrice per day. This sword inflicts two wounds for every one, or three per one against demons. It may hit immaterial or unmanifest foes, like spirits.

This full compliment of Gwyfnedi Sigil Maille of Proof has the power of self-mending, weightless, corrosion & rust proof, epic durability, and it may turns up to three blows of the wearer’s choice per day.

Dathan’s Lance

This lance is multiform, being a marshall’s baton and a heavy horseman’s lance. It is indestructable, not frangible as are most jousting lances.

Dathan’s Heater

This shield is duo-formed, being a simple bracer and a full shield as desired.

Royal Chain of Office

Reserved for the crown prince, it offers political discernment, ecclesiastical discernment, heroes’ luck, and mind-control immunity.

1205	0	Dathan I Osrick, is born in 1205, to Bingum II Osrick the Lucky and Isabel Norbert the Golden. His mother Isabel passes away from childbirth complications soon after the prince’s birth.
1208	3	His father Bingum II Osrick remarries, this time to Angoulene Mathurne.
1210	5	His half-sister Rachel Osrick is born in 1210.
1211	6	Dathan is sent to St. Wollyn’s Ordinarite Monastery (the mother house) for his education and likely ecclesiastical career.
1215	10	Dathan’s Eldest brother Victor “the Honorable” Osrick dies in 1115 without issue, leaving Brand Osrick the Sun Prince as the heir apparant.
1215	10	Dathan recalled from the nearby monastery to assume his princely duties.
1220	15	Melena Kamith becomes Dathan’s magic mentor.
1223	18	His half-sister Elaine Star-born Osrick is born in 1223.
1224	19	His older brother Brand, the Sun Prince Osrick, dies, and Dathan becomes the heir apparent. He gets the life-estate of High King of Rhonce, and Hollywell House.
1224	19	The Lord Ordainers disenfranchise King Bingum II.
1225	20	Dathan’s uncle Oliver Osrick dies by his own hand, and the County of Khellidor goes into abeyance.
1230	25	Royal physicians and surgeons are forced to amputate his father Bingum’s left foot, which had turned gangrenous.
