Lenxos
City of Bridges, the Bridgeport
Called the Bridgeport, or the City of Bridges, it was founded as a Karmithian Castra in -539. It is a navigable river city in the county of Aesdis, in the Palatine Duchy of Hempton, in the Kingdom of Rhonce. Surrounded by rich agricultural lowlands, on River Djal, the city has grown to incorporate Barl-by-the-River, which lies on the other side of the river. The Osling Street bridge is the most elaborate and celebrated structure of its type in Aorlis, with twenty pylons and an almost 1,100 feet span. It also is rare because it has two levels and includes two waterwheels underneath. The city also boasts two other bridges as well. Lenxos is connected to Barl-by-the-River by Osling Street Bridge, Orlium to the West by Osling Street, Westhaven to the East by Osling Street, and Arlford to the Northwest by a secondary road.
The Djal River connects Lenxos to Ruislan/Ultimo to North, Essien-on-the-Djal to the South, and Knitwyck to the Southeast by the Djal, Harl, and Knit Rivers. The people of this rustic community are laid-back and law-abiding, and they mistrust “shady” characters and outsiders. This is the home port of the Djal Rivermen, a guild of river pilots and guides who have royal authority over the entire length of the river. The city’s crest is a lute and escallop, on a field of argent and azure. Barl-by-the-River has been absorbed into Lenxos, and is different only in that the river divides it off. Music is at the heart of the town, taverns, streets, and porches. Ellesien the Conciliator is the city’s patron saint.
