Thilmes

The Welcoming

Thilmes, or Thilmes the Welcoming (used ironically), is a small town with a population of 7,000. In antiquity, it was a hill fort, and it has been populated ever since; in 1100 it gained its charter of community. Its crest is a fox rampant with sword and shield on a field of azure with canton argent.

Thilmes in a land-bound town on a cross-shaped protrusion over its surrounding valleys. It is long, narrow, and built to the edge of the ridge. At the head of the cross lies a fortified hall; at its crux stands the Church of Loranwynn Silver Tongue, who is the town patron saint.

Access paths up to town snake along the hillsides, and these trails are very defendable. Thilme’s streets are all cobbled, and the town is unwalled, protected by its vantage and unassailable cliffs.

This prominent place makes for poor agriculture but good pastureland. Several fresh water springs are dug in town, providing for all the community’s water needs.
This town is in the Barony of Landover, the Duchy of Barlund, the Kingdom of Noelred, in the High Kingdom of Ayrlium. Thilmes Town is tied to Valags City to the south-by-southeast by a secondary road that feeds into Old Street, and to Tolwyc Town to the northeast by secondary road.

The locals here have a reputation for being garrulous and argumentative, but in a good-natured way. They will vociferously question everything when the subject is important to them. They are witty, funny, but their dry humor can give way to biting irony. Cricket was invented here in the 12th century, and the natives pursue this game passionately.

The town is known for its fine wool production (which includes weaving, dying, and fulling), but they are also recognized for their outstanding Noelredi Whisky.

Low-key hauntings are common here, and mystery footsteps and rearranged items are often found inexplicably in closed or locked rooms. Tools have a habit of going missing and then reappearing randomly as well.

Historically, local businesswoman Laudine Hyden invented the spinning wheel in 1103.
