Verdton

Green Bridge

Verdton, with its name derived from “green town”, is sometimes called Green Bridge, which refers to its most celebrated landmark. This town was founded in 1150, and got its charter in 1177. It has a population of 11,000, and its crest is a knot on a field of vert.

As political locations go, Verdton Town is in the Barony of Coldwain, the Duchy of Soldi, the Kingdom of Noelred, in the High Kingdom of Ayrlium.

This is a bridge-based town, and therefore it extends on both sides of the Groan River. The bridge has two levels, with multiple buildings that are shops on the deck level, and homes on the upper three stories. The bridge is a center for fashion and fine tailoring. There is an expansive chapel on the bridge devoted to Verdton’s patron saint, Arturas Stout Shield.

The town is entirely cobbled and lighted at night with hooded lanterns hung at key intersections. Verdton is surrounded by excellent agricultural land and a myriad of masterfully designed woodland gardens.
Verdton began with a grid layout on both sides of the river and then expanded into an unplanned, spoked design. The town is walled with sandstone that was floated downstream on rafts, and over time its buildings and boulevards have filled its internal space and erased all the town greens or common areas. Both river access points are guarded with chains and bombards.

Verdton is connected to Mydia City to the north-by-northeast by Old Street, and to Chaussane Town to the south-by-southwest by Old Street. This town also is attached to Andwycc town to the northwest by secondary road, and to Bellton Town to the west by Groan River.

The people of Verdton are polite and self-depreciating, yet their humor is dry and their wit is cutting. They excel at beautiful woodland garden design and fine, precision tailored clothing.

This settlement is the site of an infamous massacre in 1072, when a horde of war rabbits kidnapped much of the town, flayed and fried them, and then ate the victims while their helpless families watched from the wall. Verdton is noteworthy, as well as the fabled home of Greygath Slatebeard, King Kelthan’s mythological smith and his forge.
