The God Machine
When, in Nightwinter of 717, a single point of light lit up Aotra's night sky, black and devoid of stars as it was, it was difficult not to notice. That point grew from a pinprick in the sky to a vivid blueish light almost the size of the smaller Aotran moons in a matter of weeks. On the 3rd of Dawning, 717, the light in the sky fell upon the ruins of Vay Proper. The light in the sky was no meteor, and it did not shatter on impact: it was a massive machine that landed upon the the Federation's capital city, a city annihilated by the Severing and still contaminated with unstable arcane waste, and then the machine activated.
Since its activation it has constantly emitted a pillar of light that splits into a lattice in the sky, wide and high enough to be visible for hundreds of miles in any direction. Over time the machine unfolded, and then it began to release thousands of automatons of all shapes and sizes: some take forms that look like humans, others vaguely resemble animals, but most have appearances unlike anything else on Aotra. Many of these automatons stayed near the core of the machine, but others began moving outwards from it. Within a month, they have reached every single nation on Aotra. Some are capable of communication through various means, and they all tell the same story of their origins: they are here to help. They are machines ensouled with spirits much like mortal souls, though their own souls do not come from the Myth. They come from the God Machine.
Little is known about what the God Machine is, where it came from, and what it is doing. At base leve, the only certainties are that its technology is far more advanced than even the most intricate Aotran machines; that it uses and produces no detectable magic; and that since it activated, the instability of the Myth that has plagued Aotra since the Severing seems at least partly alleviated.
